Product notes

Situated in the heart of Pomerol, Château Bel-Air has been in the Sudrat-Melet family since they purchased the estate in 1914. Since 2003, The property has been run by Véronique Melet, the second generation of women proprietors of Bel-Air. The estate is comprised of a little over thirteen hectares, planted to Merlot on soils of sandy gravel overlying a bed of green clay and iron; vines average over thirty years of age.

Production notes

Harvest is completed manually with each parcel fermented separately in stainless steel and concrete, then aged in French oak (one third new) for 12-18 months depending on vintage.

Tasting notes

This Pomerol is highly aromatic offering a nose of dark red and black fruits accented with hints of tobacco and sandalwood. Medium-bodied and well-structured, the Bel-Air is soft and lush on the attack with a lovely concentration of fruit flavors (cassis, boysenberry, plum and cherry) mixed with notes of licorice and spice. These flavors are framed by silken tannins that flow into a luxurious, ultra-long finish. Excellent with red meats and game... try with Prime Rib of beef or grilled venison tenderloin.

(Vintage 2019)

Beautiful and complex aromas of orange peel, fruit tea, hazelnuts and berries follow through to a medium body with ultra-fine tannins and polished, refined tannins. Finesse with focus. Try after 2025.

Antonio Galloni, (Vintage 2019)

The 2019 Bel-Air has come together nicely. It’s racy personality is on display, but élevage seems to have tamed some of the overt intensity that was present in the early going. Inky dark fruit, new leather, kirsch and sweet spice infuse the 2019 with quite a bit of character. This ripe, forward Pomerol will drink well right out of the gate.
