About this winery

In the land survey presented by Tommaso Soderini in 1464 to the ‘O? cials’ of the Land Registry of the Republic of Florence, it was noted that wine and oil were the most highly prized produce of the estate. The construction of the cellars, whose vaulted structure demonstrates their use for wine production, was begun in 1124. Product notes

Fermentation takes place over a ten to fifteen day period with skin contact in stainless steel tanks at temperatures of 82-86° F. Part of the ferment is undertaken under pressurized conditions whereby musts are fermented at lower temperatures to better preserve varietal aromas. Malolactic fermentation is carried out partly in barrels and partly in tank. The wine is then racked and returned to oak, where it ages for an additional 6 months period. At the end of this aging period the wine is bottled and given a further three months of bottle aging before release.

Production notes

Considerably scarcer than average in terms of quantity, but capable, in every region of Italy, of overcoming climatic excesses unscathed, providing healthy and beautiful grapes, balanced in terms of alcohol and acidity, and heralding great wines. After the April frost event, in Tuscany, the unusual heat and drought in summer further effected grapes reduction (the youngest vines did not reach the full growth) and translated into low yields as well. September was propitious: sunny, with good temperature ranges day and night, some gentle rain and good ventilation thus enabling us to harvest some very well ripened sangiovese grapes in October. The result was : very low quantity and yeald but some very high quality Sangiovese grapes from the oldest vineyards, surprising for complexity and elegance, definitely above our expectations this year.

Tasting notes

The nose is dominated by intense notes of ripe red berry fruit and complementary aromas of sweet spices, coffee chocolate and vanilla. full body ample and balanced on the palate, the wine shows silky tannins along with a sweet and spicy finish and aftertaste.
