Tasting notes

The site is not exactly a recipe for rich wine. In fact, it’s all about cool climate characteristics, as in aromatic with bright acidity and freshness. The pinot noir is a mix of two clones 943 and 667 (picked two weeks apart) aged in French oak for 17 months. The result is a bright, pure fruit pinot without any makeup. Minerally, sapid, juicy and bright, the fruit quality is outstanding.

Viticultural notes

The Simes Vineyard is a uniquely north-facing with granite-based soils, both making it quite marginal and challenging. This leads to cool, fresh and bright aromatic characters in the wines. The Vineyard is heavily sloped with Pinot Noir at the top and Riesling (the last parcel picked every year) at the bottom. One of our hidden treasures.

Winemaking notes

Spontaneous Fermentation, 17 months in a french extra tight grain oak.
