About this winery

The success of Penfolds has been driven by the generations of visionaries and innovators. From the beginning in 1844 to today, the merging of science, art and innovation has driven Penfolds to become one of Australia’s most famed and respected winemakers. After the success of early sherries and fortified wines, founders Dr Christopher and Mary Penfold planted their vine cuttings they had carried on their voyage over to Australia. Tasting notes

2015 PENFOLDS St. Henri Shiraz - Nick Stock,, November 29, 2018 “A very silky and approachable edition with a fresh, leathery edge, ahead of mainly redder fruit, pastry, cedar, leaves and a dried eucalyptus-leaf note. The palate is long, silky and supple with a succulent array of redder fruit and blackberry notes. Super primary and elegant. This is a young pup, nicely proportioned but slightly simple for now. Give it plenty of time in the cellar. A blend of 93 per cent shiraz and seven per cent cabernet sauvignon, sourced from McLaren Vale, Robe, The Peninsulas, Barossa Valley, Wrattonbully, Adelaide Hills and Mt. Benson. Try from 2025.” 2015 PENFOLDS St. Henri Shiraz - Owen Bargreen, International Wine Report, November 2018 “The 2015 'St. Henri' Shiraz was aged in extremely 50+ year-old large vats and includes a tiny portion of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine itself beings with deep and wonderfully perfumed aromatics reminiscent of blueberry compote, black tea, mocha, and anise. The wine takes on a gorgeous seamless texture, with layers of loganberry preserves, blueberry compote, mocha and crushed mint flavors which envelop the palate. Decadent and layered, this is a stunning wine from Penfolds that shows both wonderful weight and tension. Overall this is a sensational wine which is showing some wonderful early appeal, but also displays excellent potential to evolve in the cellar over the next two decades.” 2015v - John Szabo -Wine Allign: A blend this year of McLaren Vale, Robe, The Peninsulas, Barossa Valley, and Wrattonbully, aged, as always, in large, old wooden vats. Subtle, quiet nose, but the palate is rich, dripping with black fruit, ripe but fresh (despite 14.5% alcohol). It’s not particularly floral on the nose, but violets emerge on the palate, an attractive feature. Tannins are fine grained but abundant. Very good length. Balanced, fresh, stately, elegant. A timeless classic. Best 2015-2040.
