Penfolds Grange Bin 95 2013

''2013 Grange will surely go down as one of the great vintages of of the 21st century for this Australian, and world, icon. It's a monumentally rich and concentrated vintage, dripping with dense black fruit, on the edge of ripe/overripe, but like most Granges, falls on the right side of the balance. Beyond the compoted fruit is a world of savoury, sun dried black olives, dried and fresh thyme and oregano, fresh road tar, cold fireplace and charcoal; layers and layers are revealed in the glass. The palate has utterly beguiling texture, silky-smooth, supple but with abundant, velvety tannins cosseted in masses of fruit extract. Length is nothing short of exceptional. A truly monumental wine that I would expect to reach an ideal drinking window sometime in the mid-twenties, or hold into the middle of the century without doubt. Tasted January 2019.''
