Beaulieu Vineyards Napa Valley Merlot
2016
About this winery
In 1900, when Georges de Latour's wife, Fernande, first laid eyes on the land that would become their original Rutherford vineyard, she named it "beau lieu," or "beautiful place." Shortly thereafter, de Latour sold his thriving cream of tartar business, bought the four-acre ranch and founded Beaulieu Vineyard with the vision of making Napa Valley wines that would rival those of his native France.

Tasting notes
On the palate, there is a broad structure with textured flavors that are plush and full but with grace and elegance interwoven, supported by the fresh acidity. You’ll also discover hints of sweet spice, orange rind and wild sage backed up by the dark fruit core. This is a balanced, yet understated Merlot with tremendous length and great purity of dark berry fruit. A year of aging in European oak barrels added hints of sweet oak spices and dark espresso which are evident on the finish.
