In 1832, Adam Henkell (1801-66) established himself as a wine merchant in Mainz, thus laying the cornerstone of today's company, Henkell and Sohnlein. With creation of the brand-name of Henkell Trocken in the late 19th century, his grandson Otto Henkell (1869-1929) made the breakthrough onto national and international markets.
