About this winery

Launched in spring 2010, Sledgehammer produces big, bold red wines. The inaugural releases Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel are made from grapes grown in California’s North coast winegrowing region. We extend hang time to develop riper flavors and age the wines for two years in toasted oak barrels for added complexity. The result: wines so big and rich we have a hard time fitting them in the bottle.

Product notes

This wine was sourced from premium vineyards throughout sunny California including vineyards in the Red Hills appellation of Lake County. Here red volcanic soils with high rock content combine with warm days and cool nights to provide excellent growing conditions for Zinfandel. The wine grape growing regions of California are some of the best in the world and the storybook weather yields wines with rich and robust flavors.

Winemaking notes

Tasting notes

The Sledgehammer Zinfandel offers vivid aromas of boysenberry, blackberry, black cherry, and a good dose of black pepper. Dark fruit flavors of dried cherry and current, highlighted by tobacco notes, dominate the palate. The wine is balanced by soft tannins and added vanilla highlights from the influence of aging in oak.
