About this winery

Sterling Vineyards is a winery near Calistoga, California, owned by Treasury Wine Estates. Sterling Vineyards farms 1,200 acres (486 ha) of vines in various parts of Napa Valley. Production emphasizes Bordeaux and Burgundy-style wines. English expatriate Peter Newton founded the company in 1964, with the first year of production in 1969.

Production notes

We harvested our fruit at the peak of maturity, as well as frequent pumping over throughout fermentation. This constant contact between the skin and the juice allows maximum extraction of the flavor of the fruit. We then aged the wine for approximately 6 months with a combination of American and French oak to impart soft, toasty vanilla and mocha tones while strengthening the structure.

Tasting notes

The palate is smooth, offering a balanced expression of plum, blackberry tart and caramel. Soft, supple, chocolaty tannins hold the finish long and luxurious.
