About this winery

Sena, is a signal of the world and the culmination of a vision shared by two families of wines who have joined their dreams and their efforts to give birth to the first wine Icon of Chile. In 1995, Napa Valley Industry Manager Robert Mondavi and Eduardo Chadwick of Vina Errazuriz kicked off the first strategic alliance of the Chilean wine industry to create a unique wine that captures the essence of grapes.

Product notes

The grapes were picked in perfect conditions. Precise monitoring of each block allowed us to pick with great accuracy early in the season, starting with Cabernet Sauvignon on April 1st, and fnishing with Carmenere the last week of April.

Winemaking notes

The grapes were handpicked in the morning and transported to the winery in 12-kg boxes for a careful inspection on a double sorting table to eliminate plant matter and defective berries. e grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks at 24°–30°C (75°–86°F), depending on the variety and the level of extraction desired. Three pumpovers were carried out daily during fermentation to rotate 0.5-1.5 times the volume of the tank. Total maceration time ranged from 15 to 30 days for the Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Malbec and Cabernet Franc, and 8 to 12 days for the Petit Verdot, according to the development of each block vinified. The final blend was racked to French oak barrels (65% new) and aged for 22 months, during which time malolactic fermentation and stabilization occurred naturally.

Tasting notes

“Stunning aromas of blackcurrant, stone, blueberry and licorice. Also iodine. Floral. Perfumed. Full body, fantastic density of fruit and ripe tannins. It goes on for minutes on the palate with such energy and focus. Touch of chewiness on the finish. A complex and complete wine that delivers a generosity with firmness.”
